WHITE MAN SLEEPS

1 x 70 min HD Feature Documentary Film/ 1 X 52 min HD TV Documentary

This documentary explores the work of Irish composer, Kevin Volans, whose sublime music transcends the stifling background of his South African past. Kevin was born in South Africa in the 1940s but grew up thinking he was European.  The composer, whose distinctive synthesis of African and Western music has made his name, observes that identity in his native land is still problematic. This documentary is currently in pre-production.

FÀG AN BEALACH/ CLEAR THE WAY

2 x 52 minute HD Docudrama

“Fág an Bealach”, Irish for “Clear the Way”, was the battle cry of the Irish Brigade in the American Civil War.  This call was heard on the bloody battlefields of Virginia, Maryland and Pennsylvania where the legend of the “Fighting Irish” was born.

This is the story of the people behind the most famous unit in the Civil War, the Irish Brigade. The project is being supported by broadcasters in the USA and Ireland. It is currently in pre-production with production due to begin in Winter 2009.

DEATH OR CANADA (2008)

'Death or Canada' exploring the fate of the 38,000 Irish Famine immigrants who overwhelmed the small city of Toronto in the tragic summer of 1847. A Tile Films Production for RTE and History Television Canada, with the support of Telefilm Canada and BCI Sound and Vision Fund.

CROMWELL IN IRELAND (2008)

Oliver Cromwell's 17th century conquest of Ireland continues to haunt our collective memory. DECODING CHRISTIANITY (2008)

'Decoding Christianity' sets out to ‘decode’ six major themes in the history of Christianity. A Tile Films co-production with VisionTV International Canada for TG4 Ireland, S4C Wales, VisionTV Canada, Smithsonian Networks USA and UR Sweden. International Distributors: c4i UK. This series was developed with the support of the MEDIA Slate Fund.

THE ROOKES OF VICAR’S HILL (2007)

4 x 30 min HD series for BBC NI.

This observational documentary series follows Dean Patrick Rooke and his family over a 12-month period as he settles into his new role as Dean of Armagh. The series captures the many challenges Patrick faces in both his private and public life including the ordination of the new Archbishop of Ireland. This event is controversially attended by the Duke of Edinburgh (as the Queen of England’s representative) and members of the Sinn Féin Party in Northern Ireland. When broadcast in April 2007, the series secured a 17% share of the available audience across all channels (average network share was 10%).

IRELAND’S NAZIS (2007)

2 x 52 minute HD docudrama series for RTÉ, The History Channel HD UK and History Television Canada.

RAF veteran Cathal O’Shannon uncovers the truth about the war criminals and collaborators who found refuge in Ireland in the years after World War 2. The series won the Globe Gold Award (Documentary section) at the Intermedia World Media Festival in Hamburg.

THE GHOSTS OF DUFFY’S CUT (2006)

1 x 52 minute HD observational documentary for RTÉ. 

The discovery of an old file in a Pennsylvania attic reveals a shocking story about the dark side of the American dream. This observational historical documentary was nominated for a 2007 IFTA award in the Best Single Documentary category, and a Celtic Media Festival 2007 award for Best Factual Documentary. The Ghosts of Duffy’s Cut was produced by Tile Films with BCI Sound and Vision Funding for RTÉ. Sold to Smithsonian Networks USA. When broadcast on RTÉ 1 in January 2007, the documentary secured phenomenal audience share of 25.4%

'The Lost Gods' exploring the forgotten religions of six ancient world civilisations. A Tile Films co-production with VisionTV International Canada, the series won the Intermedia Globe Gold Award at the World Media Festival 2006 in Hamburg (Culture Section). Co-produced with Vision TV International Canada for S4C Wales, TG4 Ireland, Vision TV Canada, S4C International and Ellis Releasing. Pre-sold to SRG SSR idée suisse – Switzerland and YLE Teema Finland. Partly funded by the European Commission – MEDIA Programme. Since sold to SBS Australia, The History Channel UK, Smithsonian Networks USA, Odiessa Spain, ZDF Germany and a feature length version was cut for France 5.

This series explores how six major world religions find expression in art and architecture. Co-produced for S4C Wales, S4C International and TG4 Ireland. Pre-sold to SRG SSR idée suisse - Switzerland, YLE Teema Finland and SBS Australia. Partly funded by the European Commission – MEDIA Programme. Sold to UR Sweden, A&E History Channel International US, History Channel UK, History Channel Latin America, Ceska Czech Republic, Spektrum Hungary, Iberian Programming Netherlands, DR TV Denmark, TV Catalunya Spain, Multicanal Spain, Hong Kong Cable TV, VisionTV Canada and Films for the Humanities US. Nominated for an EBU Golden Link Award 2004.
